Our Mission

The Canadian Peace Grantmakers Network (CPGN) brings together various organizations, foundations and individuals who strive for peace and combat some of society's conflicts through a non-political and non-violent approach. CPGN aims to eliminate discrimination, improve our communication skills and interpersonal relations, increase our capacity to resolve conflicts in a constructive and peaceful manner, and support and encourage alternatives to violence in our communities and our lives.

CPGN uses the power of collaboration so that peace may become an efficient and established philanthropic field, focused on positive, practical and productive efforts. In this manner, the network aims to expand the scope and effectiveness of Canadian grant making in support of peace, not as a political endeavor but as a constructive field geared to the creation of a more peaceable and non-violent society.

CPGN's mission is:

  • To act as a network that provides better collaboration among peace grant makers, and between grant makers and grant seekers;
  • To promote and increase peace giving in Canada;
  • To focus especially on grassroots organizations that have a worthwhile approach, a good track record and great potential for wider-reaching success;
  • To serve as a voice for peace grant making in Canada.

In short, there are many alternatives to the promotion of peace and together they form a solid base on which social progress may take root. CPGN will focus on this type of peace work in order to promote the creation of a more peaceable and non-violent society.
